The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie Empty The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie

Post by Naukha Wed Sep 25, 2013 12:57 am

♦Azzie lays sprawled out on a nearby rooftop, laying in the sun in just her tank top, her coat has been thrown to the side. She looks rather ragged, her hair it's usual mess. She dozes quietly.

• Swathes of dark purples and blues had begun to settle over Divinity's Reach as the sun dipped below the lip of the horizon, marking the end of another day. Lyarii, who was cloaked with a greenish blue aura as her bioluminescence began to appear in the dim light, strode down one of the side streets. She seemed to be heading in no particular direction.

♦ Azzie sits up, blinking and groggy. Her warm sun had disappeared while she was asleep. She runs a hand through her hair and rubs at her face before reaching over and throwing her coat over her shoulders. After a few moments of gathering herself, she stands and glances over the streets below. Her eyes catch the Sylvari and she crouches, curious. It's not common to see a Sylvari wandering off the main roads in this city.

• As the shadows began to consume the city, some of the more unsavory characters began to creep from their nooks and crannies to gawk at and eye the few extremely courageous or incredibly naïve citizens which dared to wander the streets after dark. Lyarii was among them.
As she passed by a narrow alley, the glint of a half-drawn blade and the flash of light reflected in eyes marked the existence of a thin man who stood leaning against one of the walls with his hood drawn. When he was sure he was out of Lyarii's peripheral, he drew his dagger completely and crept out from his hiding place.

♦ She narrows her moonlit-blue eyes, perking an eyebrow and glancing between the Sylvari and the man waiting in the shadows. She knew this type. Hell, she'd lived among them once, and she knew what his next move would be.
She frowns, still crouching and peering over the edge of the roof.

•The man was obviously well practiced. It was clear he wasn't a foreigner to street life. He stayed just out of her vision, walking on the sides of his feet to muffle noise and keep as low as he could. He brandished his blade in front of him. Still, Lyarii appeared oblivious, occasionally slowing to eye cast-away objects on the ground beneath her.
He was close now, and moved his dagger towards the seemingly bag hanging from her waist. He'd slit the purse first, then her throat if she decided to make a commotion. When he was only inches away, Lyarii's illuminated eyes suddenly flickered behind her.
With a single snake-like movement, she pivoted and threw the length of her arm backwards, missing the knife with calculated precision and finding home in the soft flesh of the gap in his collarbone. Caught completely offguard, the man immediately stumbled backwards with a weak gurgle. Without missing a beat, Lyarii immediately takes a step and lunges towards his side, fishing a knife-hand through the loose cloak and underneath his ribcage. There's a popping noise and the man starts to cry out before his back hits the ground and the sounds is broken.

•Lyarii stands over him for a moment, her eyes narrowed in disdain before she simply turns and resumes her walk, leaving him to lie on the cold ground.

♦ Azzie was just about to jump down from the roof when the man made to strike the Sylvari but paused when, in a matter of seconds, he was flat on his back on the ground. Her eyes widened. Her mouth slightly agape. /She's PERFECT/ she thought to herself silently, and before she even knew what she was doing she had jumped down from the roof and yelled out a loud, "HEY! YOU!"

• Immediately, Lyarii whipped around, tense and ready to strike out at whomever had thought it was a smart idea to approach her next. Lucky for Azzie, she was far enough away to be out of range of any instinctual reaction and thus Lyarii was able to properly consider what was happening. She narrowed her eyes slightly when she realized her pursuer wielded no weapon, and stopped to look back at the red-headed women who was just as short as she was.
"Y-yes?"
She said with a tone of confusion.

♦ Azzie blinked. She had gotten too excited and hadn't exactly thought of what she was even going to say next. "Uh- I need your help." She glances over to the man currently on the ground. "You- how did you do that? You don't even have any weapons."

• Lyarii blinked at Azzie, furrowing her brow slightly.
"I...I'm sorry, I don't think I can help you."
She said plainly, flat out ignoring Azzie's second question and instead turning away to continue walking.

♦ Azzie furrows her brow, frowning intensely. "Well I think you're wrong!" She begins to follow stubbornly after, a tone of adamance in her voice. "You just knocked that man on his ass in seconds. Without killing him! I don't think you understand, I /need/ to learn how to do that." Azzie moves to follow beside her. Her face expression is a mixture of frustrated determination and...desperation.

• Lyarii glances back at where she'd left the man. It would seem as though he'd managed to pull himself up and go find some whole to wallow in for a while.
"Why do you need to learn how to use pressure points? Don't you have a dagger or a-a gun?" Lyarii immediately silenced herself after saying this, cursing at herself for having referred to the fact that she'd used pressure points.

♦Both of Azzie's eyebrows seemed to perk up at the mention of pressure points. And then the question comes, concerning her weapons. Her face immediately falls and becomes troubled. A moment of silence. "Those things...they kill people." She glances away, studying the cobblestones upon which they are walking for awhile. Her voice is lower, resonating with a melancholy sound. She shakes her head, "And I don't want to do that anymore."

• Lyarii watches the human's expression with intense interest, gritting her teeth in thought at she did so.
"I would if I could but I...I just can't. Just because I know how to use a few in an emergency doesn't mean I could teach you anything...I...they're just a backup really." Her voice got quieter towards the end of her sentence and her brought a pale hand up to rest on the back of her neck as she looked at the ground rather nervously. She was mentally scolding herself for having let some stranger become infatuated with something so...trivial.

♦Azzie is not easily deterred. Not ever. And especially not now. She looks up at the Sylvari's words. Her mismatched pale blue eyes glint in the blue bioluminescence given off by the Sylvari, making them look a nearly unnatural icy blue. It becomes a look of frustration. "Right, because what you did back there was /clearly/ just 'back up'." She says, flinging her arm in the direction of where the man was once laying. Her voice drips with sarcasm. "Just...teach me whatever you /do/ know. Anything. I'll pay you. Buy you drinks. Give you a free place to stay for the night. Whatever you want! But I need to learn /something/, just give me a place to start!"

• Lyarii looked up momentarily, her gaze catching the hard-set and stone-cold look in the woman's eyes. She admitted she wasn't sure if she'd ever seen such a look of determination in her entire life. She continued to study Azmarion for a few moments in silence, her eyes flitting over Azzie's face as if she was searching every nook and cranny for evidence of her seriousness.
"I don't need drinks and I don't need pay. I have everything I need. You're going to have to find some other way to convince me to teach a complete stranger who just traipsed up to me out of nowhere and told me she needed me to teach her everything I know about paralyzing, debilitating and inhibiting people without stabby-pointy things or poisons!"
Her voice was more awestruck than impatient, as if she couldn't believe this was happening.

♦ Az's doesn't take her eyes off the Sylvari as her eyes seem to searchingly scour her face. She sets her teeth, hesitating for a moment. Her face becomes tense with the effort of hiding a pained expression. Her voice betrays her, softening as she speaks the words. "I kill people." She spits out. "It's all I've ever known how to do and it's destroying me from the inside out. I need another option. A way to protect myself without resorting to.....extremes."
She looks away briefly, swallowing the creeping guilt and self-consciousness that she's beginning to feel from suddenly dumping this onto a complete stranger. She sighs, glancing up. "I'm running out of time.." She mutters.

• Lyarii takes a moment to think over these words as well, her soft glow seeming to pulsating in the near stillness of the air around her. She had planned on spending some time in Divinity...maybe she could just her started....teach her the basics...
She pursed her lips from one side to the other as she weighed all her options.
The basics, they weren't going to be enough if this woman wanted to completely avoid weapons altogether. Lyarii closed her eyes completely now, scrunching her brow.
"What's...what's your name?"
She suddenly piped up completely off topic, giving herself more time to think. She knew this human was serious. She knew she really wanted to learn, but the issue wasn't Azmarion. It was herself.

♦Azzie looks up, suspicious at the Sylvari’s sudden change of topic. “Az Alexander. Most call me Azzie.” She answers with a shrug. “And you?”

•Lyarii nods at her introduction. “My name is Lyarii.” She hesitates, then gives a curt half-bow as opposed to shaking hands. She sighs deeply, making eye contact with Azzie one last time. Clearly nervous, she doesn’t hold it for long and returns to studying the ground with strangely intense interest.
“I’m sure there are others out there who could teach you better than I could...I-” She was about to mention her own mentor’s name when she remembered his untimely passing a few months prior. “I wouldn’t be a good mentor. I want to help, I do…”
She was aware of just how difficult she was being, but couldn’t bring herself to give Azmarion a straight answer.

♦ Azzie stares at her, brows furrowing once again. "If you /really/ want to help, then at least /make/ an effort! And besides, how do you even know if you have clearly never even tried?!"

• Lyarii flinches a little bit, as if Azzie had raised a hand to strike her. Keeping her head ducked to the side, she spoke in an extremely soft tone, her bluebell colored eyes appearing to have dimmed slightly. “I-I don’t know….I just...I…” Her sentences began to stutter as she got more nervous.
All of a sudden, her lip quivered a little bit and she curled her hands into fists at her sides.
“Fine!”
She nearly yells before lowering her voice significantly.
“Fine…”
The second “Fine” seems more defeated in nature and she looks away again, bringing up her left hand to rest on her upper right arm. She rubs it lightly.
“I’ll...I’ll try but I’m not promising anything…” she mutters.

♦Azzie nearly ducks at the petite Sylvari’s unexpected yell. Although as soon as her answer followed, she seemed to brighten considerably. “Really?!- I mean- Great! When can we start?!” She asks as a wide, nearly childlike smile breaks across her face.

•Lyarii blinks a few times as if she couldn’t believe what she had just agreed to. Suddenly, she turns and with two fingers aims a jab at the soft spot between the underside of Azzie’s jaw and neck.

♦Azzie’s eyes widen at the sudden movement as she flickers backwards evasively. The edges of her figure appear to nearly blur in the dark, but you can’t be sure. Either way, she’s surprisingly fast. “Hey! Whoa! I said teach me, not leave me laying in the street!” She narrows her eyes at Lyarii, her voice becoming calm and low. “But if you wanna pick a fight, that’s your choice.”

•Lyarii straightens, secretly pleased with Azzie’s reaction. There was a thing to be learned from either thing that could have happened. Either Azzie would have learned a new pressure point, or she was going to prove that she was fast enough and had the reflexes to use them.
“I’m not picking a fight...You asked when we started, and I decided to start now.” Lyarii was being slightly passive-agressive, a little frustrated that she’d been goaded into doing this for a stranger she’d not met ten minutes before, but she admitted that she was a little impressed.
She took a few strides towards Azzie, and extended a finger to tip her head to the side slightly. She tapped the spot she’d aimed for originally with the tip of her finger, before using it to gently reach under the jaw; demonstrating the idea and giving her a sense of what type of pain it was.
“This is one of the bigger ones. Not only does it hurt, but if you press hard enough then you can keep them from breathing.” She retracted her finger, looking at Azzie without quite knowing what to expect.

♦Azzie blinks, watching the Sylvari’s movements closely. Making note of them. Committing them to memory. She pokes at the bottom of her own jaw, where Lyarii’s fingers had just been. “Right, okay. That makes sense. What else?”

•Lyarii watched with her head cocked slightly as Azzie investigated the point. Her face was set in a rather impassive expression. “Maybe...we shouldn’t do this in the middle of the night….” She pointed out, rotating at the waist to survey the streets around her. She assumed that more than one set of eyes had probably witnessed her take out the cutpurse, but they wouldn’t stay lurking in the shadows forever.

♦Azzie nods, following her gaze around. “You have a point.” She drums her fingers against the side of her cheek in thought. “We could head back to...my house. It’s just right over in the Ossan Quarter. We can continue this in the morning?”

• Lyarii looked a little hesitant.
"I..I couldn't just invade your house...that's not right...I can rent a room in the flagon or something"
She was clearly fluctuating between feeling shy and trying to keep a firm demeanor so Azmarion didn't think she'd accepted the offer simply because she was feeling verbally cornered. She wanted to make a strong first impression.

♦Azzie snorts, “No, really. No one’s home and...well, I haven’t really been home in awhile either, I should check up on the place.”

•Lyarii shuffles her feet. She was being invited to stay the night at the house of a stranger whom she’d just met no more than 15 minutes prior and in that time agreed to teach said stranger about her intricate fighting style. Yet, the words she uttered from her mouth were something completely against her intuition.
“O-Okay.” she mumbled meekly. Truthfully, she really just wanted the quiet place to sleep as opposed to the perpetual hubbub of the Flagon.

♦ Azzie glances around, and motioning for Lyarii to follow, and steps into a run to escape the rougher part of town that they'd found themselves in. She heads north, for the Ossan district. It can be seen that she knows these streets as she chooses a twisting route through alleyways and side-streets, occasionally passing through courtyards or gardens.

• Lyarii looks around a last time before breaking into a run after Azzie. Although she isn't familiar with the layout and maze of a city that Divinity was, she kept up fairly easily. She ran on the balls of her feet, minimizing sounds to a near silent thudding.

♦ They arrive at the front of Az's house. Azzie calmly strides up the steps and yanks open one of the large metal sliding doors. It wasn't locked, and apparently this is normal. She steps inside and looks around for a moment before heading over to the hearth.

• Lyarii balks at the threshold, her glow illuminating the dark interior of the house with a soft green-blue light. She watches warily as Azzie moves to the hearth, twisting her arms in front of her slightly and intertwining her fingers. She rocks back and forth on the balls of her feet tenuously, her elvish looking face slightly wrinkled with anxiety.

♦ Azzie kneels before the hearth, tossing in some kindling, and then some thin logs. "Make yourself at home, we...might have some food or something." She says as she pulls a dagger from its sheath, laying its blade in the kindling.
She closes her eyes, her jaw seeming to clench as she dredges up memories that, frankly, have pissed her off.
She thinks of Vale, right before he left, and within moments the daggers alight the delicate timbers.

•With Azzie’s invitation, Lyarii hesitantly shuffles into the room, taking a seat at one of the kitchen chairs with her knees pointed inward and her lower legs angled out. She folds her hands neatly in her lap, laying her arms in the crease between her legs as if she were trying to make herself as small as possible. “I’m not too hungry, I ate a little while ago.” She replies falsely, even though her stomach churned at the thought of food.
She furrows her in curiosity as Azzie lays her daggers across the kindling and closes her eyes, hardening her expression. Lyarii jumps slightly at the fire as it sparks to life, her wide eyes reflecting the flame before she takes a near silent breath to calm herself.
“H-how did you do that?” she inquires, rather awe-struck.

♦Azzie slowly opens her eyes, looking over the flickering flames for a moment before quietly standing and sheathing her daggers. She shoots a brief glance over her shoulder at Lyarii before busying herself with rooting around the various cabinets, looking for food. “My daggers are blessed by Balthazar. Well, I guess /I’m/ blessed by Balthazar, really. Either way, the hotter my temper- the hotter my blades.”
She opens a bread box, and locates some bread that may or may not be stale. She tosses it on a nearby plate, along with some random fruit she managed to locate. She brings the plate over to the table and sits it near Lyarii. She looks over Lyarii and notes her more-nervous demeanor with an unabashed stare before turning and heading for the liquor cabinet. She pulls out her usual bottle of blood red whiskey, and begins to pour herself a glass.

The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie Empty Re: The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie

Lyarii eyed Azmarion with a new found caution at the flame-haired woman's insinuation before furrowing her brown as Azzie set a plate of food before her.
"I-I can't really, you don't need to waste food on me, I...I have money..." she said deferentially, resisting the urge to pluck one of the sickeningly-sweet smelling but rather infirm fruits from the plate. Instead, she turned her attention back to Azmarion whom was now pouring herself a drink.
"Do you live here all by yourself? It's quite roomy..." Her eyes flickered to the two chairs at the dinning table and grocery-laden counter tops. Accommodations for two.

The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie Empty Re: The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie

Azzie, with her back turned to Lyarii, rolled her eyes silently at her protest of the food. "Really, it's okay. We have plenty of food, more than either of us eat." She frowns slightly, "The 'us' being...my husband. Or...whatever he is at this point.." she mumbles, bringing her drink to her lips and taking a sip. "We are having a bit of a...rough patch currently." She clears her throat as the drink burns it's way down.
She walks over to the opposite side of the table, sets her drink down, and shrugs off her coat before throwing it over the back of her chair. Her ink visible in the dim light. She kicks back in her chair, propping her feet up on the table off to the side and crossing her legs at the ankles. "How about you? You got a lover back home?"

The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie Empty Re: The Adventures of Lyarii and Azzie

Post by Opal Wed Sep 25, 2013 1:31 am

Lyarii felt her breath catch in her throat as Azzie's question hit an emotional sore spot.
"I-uh"
She stuttered, swallowing roughly.
"He....I did...He...he, uh. We..."
Tears suddenly welled up and burned in the corners of her eyes but she blinked them back, pretending to look bemused instead.
"His...his name was Yndis. His name is Yndis."
She said softly, staring down into her lap as she twiddled her thumbs.
"He...he fell...he fell to nightmare a co- a couple months ago..."
She finally managed to eke out.

Azzie studied Lyarii for a moment before her eyes dropped to her drink that she had cupped in her hands. Her voice lowered, "Oh..." She frowns, glancing up at Lyarii's glassy eyes before looking away uncomfortably. "I'm sorry I asked." she mutters. She takes a slow drink, with a rather thoughtful expression.
After a few moments of silence she sits her drink down and seems to suddenly perk up again, changing the topic. "So, uh, are you sure you aren't hungry? Would you like a drink?" She holds up her own glass of whiskey, motioning to it inquisitively with her other hand.

"It's alright, you, you didn't mean anything by it."
She managed a weak smile before waving dismissively at Azmarion's offer of alcohol.
"I'm quite alright, really."
Her mind drifted back to what Azzie has said of her spouse.
"So he...your husband...he isn't here I presume? I'm sorry you guys are going through a bit of a rough patch..."

Looks down at her drink, swirling it around in it's glass. Her blue eyes flicker in the warm firelight of the house. "Yeah...he's out...somewhere." She sighs quietly. "I just...made some rather stupid decisions I guess."

"You don't seem like a very stupid person to me..." Lyarii reassured her meekly, but with an honest tone.
"I think...I think that maybe...maybe you just don't look before you leap sometimes"
Lyarii was making a rather wide assumption, but her mind had made a connection to when the stocky woman had leapt off a roof and sprinted towards her, seeming only to re-evalute what she was doing after reaching her target.

Azzie furrowed her brows, looking at Lyarii with a rather guilty expression. "I guess you're right..." She sighs, her expression softening and her voice becoming quieter. "Well, at least it gets things done I guess." She runs a hand through her red hair. "Sorta..."
Another sigh, a frown.
She brings her glass of whiskey to her lips, taking another measured sip.
